Growth and development occur in a predictable sequence throughout our lives, but the most dramatic changes happen during childhood. Understanding growth and development is the foundation of pediatric nursing practice. Applying knowledge about pediatric growth and development to specific clinical scenarios allows nurses to address the cognitive, physical, and emotional needs of their patients.
