8.6.0 Lesson Overview

Algebra 18.6.0 Lesson Overview

Search for key terms or text.

In this lesson, you will begin to rewrite quadratic expressions from standard to factored form. You will look at expressions of the form (x+m)(x+n)(x+m)(x+n) and (xm)(xn)(xm)(xn) where mm and nn are positive.

When you finish this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Explain how the numbers in a quadratic expression in factored form relate to the numbers in an equivalent expression in standard form.
  • Rewrite a quadratic expression in standard form when given the quadratic expression in factored form.
  • Rewrite a quadratic expression in factored form when given the quadratic expression in the form of x2+bx+cx2+bx+c.

Here are the activities that will help you reach those goals:

  • 8.6.1: Finding and Reasoning Unknown Factors
  • 8.6.2: Using Diagrams to Understand Equivalent Expressions
    • 8.6.2: Self Check
    • 8.6.2: Additional Resources
  • 8.6.3: Rewriting Quadratic Expressions in Standard Form
    • 8.6.3: Self Check
    • 8.6.3: Additional Resources
  • 8.6.4: Finding the Missing Numbers in Pairs of Equivalent Expressions

After that, you’ll practice and review.

  • 8.6.5: Practice
  • 8.6.6: Lesson Summary
