Our partnership with OpenStax fostered lifelong connections that benefit not only OER collaborations but student success between institutions.
Director of Distance and Accelerated Learning
The OpenStax Institutional Partner Program is designed to provide institutions with free coaching, training, and support with the goal of increasing use of OpenStax and other open educational resources. We want to build a strong community of institutions who are working together to develop a deeper understanding of what can be done with OpenStax and the larger ecosystem of OER materials.
This year, we’re looking to work with institutions who are interested in launching or expanding OER initiatives on their campuses to promote a wider and richer engagement with open materials. Our incoming institutional partners will join our community of nearly 80 partner schools who work together to share strategies, discuss challenges, and celebrate wins.
This year’s institutions will be selected during a competitive application process in spring. Each institution admitted into the program will work with us to learn new strategies and apply them to their campus. Calls and emails with the community of institutions provide peer-to-peer support, guidance, and accountability.
Promoting OER on your campus
Institutions don't have to be in the Institutional Partnership Program to start encouraging the use of OER on campus. Here are a few tips to get started:

Customizing OpenStax resources
The Institutional Partner Program provided the assistance, support, and accountability we needed to have rapid, successful OER expansion at our college.
Associate Professor of Biology
We work with you one on one to apply proven strategies on your campus to increase depth and breadth of OER use at your institution. We’ll give you templates and tactics, and help you refine your plan to accomplish your OER goals on your campus. We'll help you track faculty interest and adoption of OER materials to measure the success of your strategies and your progress towards your campus goals.
You'll also meet with our cohort of partner institutions each month to discuss what’s working and what’s not working, celebrate wins together, and get advice and support from one another. Our passionate community of 50+ partner institutions is ready to share ideas, challenges, successes, and feedback!

OpenStax works with schools across the country to expand their OER program.
On average, our institutional partners have increased the number of students using OER by over 150% after completing the first year of the program. In the past two years, those increases have saved students at our partner institutions more than $19.6 million dollars!

Teaming up with the other OpenStax Institutional Partner schools provided a sense of community as we navigated launching OER initiatives at our own campuses. Learning about other schools’ successes and frustrations each month was inspiring. I learned so many new techniques and innovative ideas that I could then apply at my own campus. It’s inspiring to see how many students are impacted by OER adoption — the numbers really add up quickly.
