CNX was in service for over twenty years, and its community of users have been an incredibly important part of our journey as an organization. However, the CNX platform became outdated and the needs of students and instructors have evolved, requiring it to be replaced with a more modern and robust set of tools to support students, instructors, and continue our mission of providing high-quality, free textbooks and education solutions. For more details, see our blog post here.
Official OpenStax textbooks are freely available. They can be found at https://www.openstax.org/subjects
Community-created CNX textbooks have been transferred to the Internet Archive, where they are freely available, at https://archive.org/details/@openstax-staxly.
A small percentage of community-created CNX textbooks were not transferred to the Internet Archive due to technical issues we encountered during transfer. Please contact OpenStax's Customer Support team if you are unable to find your community-created CNX textbook on the Internet Archive.
It is unfortunately not possible for us to send you to a specific file (or “resource”) within a community-created CNX textbook on the Internet Archive. If you are using a URL that includes “resource/” and landed here, please take the following steps:
Option 1:
Option 2: Visit the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine and enter the URL that brought you to this page (e.g. https://cnx.org/contents/e0b4aa89-4bf4-4c59-a7a4-5b5a627c73b1@2/Sargon-the-Great-and-the-Charismatic-Rulers-of-Ancient-Akkad-of-Mesopotamia). Press Enter to search. (example result)
We will always support customization of our content – we see adaptation as one of the key values of our open license. Official OpenStax textbooks can currently be edited by users who have Instructor accounts, by downloading DOCX versions of our books that can be edited in Microsoft Office, Open Office, uploaded to Google Docs, or using another Word-compatible editor. The DOCX files can be downloaded from the Instructor Resources tab of a book.
Community-created content stored on the Internet Archive can be downloaded for free in multiple formats, including EPUB, which can be edited using a free editor such as Calibre.
